Can I Afford handles figures most people do not share: what you earn, what you owe, and what you have saved. This page states plainly what is stored, where it lives, and who can read it. It is written to be understood rather than to protect us.

What we collect

Only what the calculation needs, and nothing else:

  • Your six figures — monthly take-home, monthly expenses, existing loan EMIs, liquid savings, investments, and age. Plus the assumptions you choose, such as expected investment return and inflation.
  • Your decision history — the category, amount and verdict for each decision you save, so you can look back at what you asked and what you did.
  • Your Google account basics — email address, name and profile photo, supplied by Google when you sign in. We never receive your Google password.

We do not ask for your PAN, Aadhaar, bank credentials, account numbers, or card details. The app never connects to your bank and cannot move money.

Who can read it

Your records are protected by Row Level Security in the database itself. Every query is checked against your signed-in identity, so another user cannot read your figures even if the application code were to contain a bug. This is enforced by the database, not merely by the app.

Where it is stored

  • Supabase — hosts the database holding your figures and decision history, and manages sign-in.
  • Vercel — serves the website and counts page views. It processes standard request logs, such as IP address, as any web host does.
  • Google — handles sign-in when you choose it, and tells us only your email, name and photo.
  • Gravatar — if your Google account has no photo, your email address is hashed and sent to Gravatar to look one up. Only the hash leaves your browser, never the address itself.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data, and we never will.
  • We do not run advertising, and there are no advertising trackers in the app.
  • We count visits using Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, does not follow you across other websites, and records no personal data — only that a page was viewed.
  • We do not share your figures with lenders, brokers, insurers or agents.
  • We do not send your data to any AI service. Every calculation runs as ordinary arithmetic in your own browser.

Using it without an account

If sign-in is unavailable, the app runs in guest mode and everything stays in your browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded. When you later sign in, your saved work moves into your account and the local copy is cleared.

Deleting your data

Clear all in the app removes your stored figures and your entire decision history immediately and permanently. You do not need to ask us, and you do not need to wait.

Signing out and clearing your data leaves nothing but an empty account record. If you want that removed too, use the contact route published on this site.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Everything we hold about you is visible in the app itself, and Clear all erases it on the spot.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who can read it, we will say so in the app rather than quietly updating this page.
