By using Can I Afford you agree to what follows. It is short, because the important part is a single idea: this is a calculator that shows its working, not an adviser.

Can I Afford is an educational tool. It performs arithmetic on figures and assumptions that you supply and can change. It is not investment advice, not a recommendation to buy or avoid anything, and not a substitute for a registered investment adviser.

We are not registered with SEBI as an investment adviser, and we do not hold, manage, move or invest your money. We earn nothing from any decision you make and receive no commission from any lender, broker or seller.

Projections are arithmetic, not predictions

Every figure the app shows for a future year is the result of compounding the assumptions currently set — investment return, salary growth, inflation, and the rate and tenure of any loan. Real returns vary, real salaries stall, and real life intervenes. Treat the numbers as a way to compare two choices, never as a forecast of what will happen.

The rules we apply

The app tests each decision against published rules of thumb, and names the source of each. Several originate outside India and are stated against gross income; we convert them to Indian net take-home and say so in the rule itself. They are widely used heuristics, not laws, and a decision that fails one may still be right for you.

Your responsibilities

• The answers are only as good as the figures you enter. Keep them accurate and current.
• You are responsible for your own financial decisions and their consequences.
• Consult a qualified professional before any decision that would be difficult to reverse.
• Do not use the app to break the law, or attempt to access anyone else's data.

Availability

The service is provided as it is, without warranty. We may change, suspend or discontinue it. We aim to keep it running and your data safe, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access or that no data will ever be lost. Keep your own record of anything that matters to you.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from decisions you make using this app. It is a calculator; the decision, and the outcome, remain yours.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India.
